MAKING PEACE WITH THE SUN
As a child, I was always very outdoorsy. I ran a lot, played golf and tennis, and spent all my time at the beach. The sun and I were best friends. But then I started getting white spots on my arms. When I went to the dermatologist, she said it was the sun and recommended I not expose myself to it so much. =( From then on, it was really sad, to be honest. Leaving the house with a hat, a mask, and long sleeves in the heat was a real struggle. I always heard my mom say before I went out, "I'm going to get spots on my face."
My life changed a lot because all my activities were outdoors. Now I always had to be inside or hiding in the shade.
Then I decided to always watch the sunset because it was the time I could go outside, meditate, run, and be happy.
Seven years ago, I moved to Baja California Sur to a beautiful town called La Ventana. My husband and I took a boat to Cerralvo Island (obviously, I was carrying around ten thousand hats and long sleeves). etc.)
At sunset, I began to meditate. The sun was incredibly deep, and I felt a very strong connection. I felt as if the sun was telling me, "I'm not bad, Regina, I'm here to give life." Then I started thinking about how it's a beautiful, generous, abundant being that's always there, shining its light on us. It gives us life, it gives us light, and that light is within us. The sun is good and perfect; it gives us vitamin D, helps strengthen our bones, strengthens our immune system, helps us kill bacteria, and helps improve our emotions. Obviously, I'm still taking care of myself, but no longer out of fear. I'm exposing myself to the sun in moderation; nothing in excess is good. I was just tired of that belief I had, that the sun would stain my skin.
I decided to send it lots of love and be friends again. I decided that the Sun and I are connected, and we can find that connection if we want to. The Sun is a divine being, a gift from God.
I promised it I would create a natural sunscreen for my skin. I named it SUN NOT TODAY. It's an environmentally friendly sunscreen, free of chemicals, and doesn't harm fish or the sea. I also made a special tinted face sunscreen called GOOD KARMA, made with turmeric and ashwagandha. This truly changed my life—living in harmony with the elements, taking care of them, and them taking care of me.
I've been living on the beach for seven years now, and I'm incredibly happy enjoying it. I try to be careful when the sun is strongest, between noon and 4 pm. I try to greet the sun when it rises and when it sets. I'm infinitely grateful for its presence; it's quite an experience to do this. I also encourage my children to do this and not pass on any negative beliefs. They should always greet it when it arrives and say goodbye when it sets.
I've also noticed that the sun is very popular around the world. On my trips to Munich, Germany, and Melbourne, Australia, people eagerly await the warm weather. After months of freezing cold, when summer arrives, they go to the river to play, make plans at the beach, there are more parties and get-togethers. People eagerly anticipate this time of year and truly value the sun. I see that it brings so much life, warmth, and joy. With the cold, we shrink and become sad. I know it's very important to have it, to truly value it, and not take it for granted.
I invite anyone who identifies with this belief in the Sun to make peace with it, to invite the Sun to ignite your inner light, where true beauty comes from. It's there for you, to give us strength, light, and to shine brightly.
And obviously don't overdo it, wear sunscreen. MOTHER MOON
SUN, I LOVE YOU and I am grateful for your existence.
